Numbers need context. Anyone who has attended business school probably learned this in their first class at university. When the job report comes out and says the economy added 50,000 jobs, what does that mean?
Well, it’s simple math. It means 0.015% more of the United States population is now employed that wasn’t before. Acknowledging that even that number needs context, 50,000 jobs doesn’t sound great, right?
