  • Tedeschi Trucks Band put on another amazing show in St. Louis last night. For me, the cover of Dreams and the showcases for the female backup singer were the big highlights.

As in most past years, the band played at the Fox. Don’t get me wrong. The Fox is an absolutely beautiful theater. It is just not a venue that makes any sense for a rock band. There is a perpetual struggle between sitters and standers which often includes each group exchanging barbs. It’s just not the right place to feel rock/blues/jam music.

I do have a very simple solution to resolve all of this. St. Louis Music Park has the same capacity as the Fox. It’s outside and is designed for concerts with a general admission section and designated seating areas. So, the standers can stand, and the sitters can sit all while getting some fresh air. Problem solved.

  • I know my experience is completely local and subjective, but my ears are telling me that our seasonal cicadas are much louder and much more intense than the great cicada invasion of 2024. They’re being quite rude while I’m trying to listen to the Cubs game.

  • It should be quite telling to ESPN that I would rather sit outside in the heat and humidity of yet another horrendous St. Louis summer evening to listen to the Cubs/Cardinals game on WSCR than to watch and listen to the ESPN broadcast.

  • Trump continues to show his lack of leadership and character by backing out of another agreement. I’m sure he thinks he’s being a tough guy, but it just makes him look weak and worried that things would not end well for him.

  • I know professional sports teams are businesses above all else, but it sure is hard to lose players like Tim Parker. He is an absolute beast on defense and will serve New England very well.

  • European regulators have made a massive mistake by requiring Apple and others to open their ecosystems to third-party app stores. Mobile devices need to be considered an essential safety device in a much different category than a personal computer. They help people find their way home, manage their health, and pay for goods and services all potentially while away from home.

Plain and simple, the devices MUST work. No exceptions. Third-party app stores present too much risk, and if I were in the European market, I would not be using these options. Regulators could have taken a much different approach to allow more categories of apps on mobile devices while still protecting users who most likely do not have the technical sophistication to understand the risks. This will be an interesting experiment to watch from the other side of the pond.
