  • Watching the Iowa Caucus coverage tonight and thinking about all of the language that has been used at the debates and rallies over the last several months (years). If you listened just a little bit during your history classes in high school, you would be able to link the words and rhetoric being used by the Republican candidates to those used by Mussolini and Hitler in the 1920s and 1930s to gain power.

Rick Steves put together an hour-long program about the rise of Fascism in Europe. Obviously with just an hour, the program can only cover the topic at a very high level, but in that one hour, you will notice a clear linkage between how Mussolini and Hitler duped their countrymen and how Trump has done the same thing.

The main lesson learned by the Italian and German participants in the program? Education, education, education. But think about what has happened in the United States in the last several decades. Civics education is no longer considered mandatory or even all that important in many high schools. The foundation has been set to allow history to repeat itself.

It is not that much of a stretch to see a future where the world must come together to prevent a fascist United States from doing something incredibly heinous. History can and does repeat itself especially when education is minimized and dismissed.

  • Can someone please explain to Republicans that there is no “Democrat Party?” Saying it just makes them sound really, really dumb. There have to be more intelligent candidates out there, right?

  • It is absolutely unacceptable to give in to disgusting and clearly racist politicians hell-bent on taking us back two or three generations in thinking. We need to expect more from our university leaders and politicians. Someone needs to be strong enough to say no!

  • I am grateful to the 22 Republicans that voted against Jordan for Speaker of the House. That leaves just 199 representatives with seriously questionable decision making skills including my own representative. It’s a start, though.

House Speaker Election House Delays 3rd Vote After Jordan Fails Again

  • The House cannot possibly elect Jordan as Speaker. He is unworthy of the responsibility inherent in the position 2nd in line to the presidency for all Americans. He has done nothing in his legislative career to prove he is any kind of leader. Who’s next?

  • This is what happens when supporters of one of our major political parties elects candidates that couldn’t pass a civics test even if it was open book.

    Knock it off, Newt!

You were once second in line to the United States presidency. You know what you are saying is complete nonsense. Everyone knows that you know this.

Have some respect for the office you once held and speak truthfully from the position you now hold. Words are important.

  • House Republicans pass resolution overturning student loan cancellation; Biden vows to veto

I understand the debate about the pandemic-related loan forgiveness proposal, but why would House Republicans go after the loan forgiveness program for public servants? Aren’t they supposed to be public servants too? Aren’t they hurting their own? Oh, that’s right – most of these folks have never served the public and still don’t.

  • Texas judge suspends FDA approval of abortion pill mifepristone

I am absolutely furious! Livid! My daughter has less rights and control over her body in 2023 than my mother has enjoyed her entire adult life and my wife has enjoyed her entire life.

How can this be? Why are we allowing the minority to control us? Why are we allowing people with ancient and fringe opinions to make the rules?

This is not going to fix itself. We need to stand up. Fight! VOTE!

    We will not go back!

  • Missouri Republicans use state budget to block diversity initiatives, cut library funding

If you have ever visited a library or used the resources of a library, you know the positive impact they can have on a person’s life and their knowledge base. Here in Missouri, it seems many House Republicans have forgotten this as they have decided to completely remove state funding for public libraries from the budget. What’s ironic is that they and their staffs most likely use a library or the skills of a librarian every day to do their work.

If you care at all about ensuring public access to information, consider donating to your local public library foundation. They will need private donations more than ever if the Senate allows the provision to remain in the budget.

Here are links to the library foundations in the St. Louis area:
