iMessages for All!

If iMessages are stored in iCloud, why in the world can I not view them on iCloud.com? Time for Apple to open iMessages to browsers and other operating systems. People do not buy iPhones, iPads, or Macs just to have iMessages, but I suspect they would install iMessages on non-Apple hardware to communicate better with their iPhone-owning friends and co-workers.
